Salvation Army work with Homeless Community in Mallorca
We have a regular work with the homeless community throughout the year, meaning that every week, on Fridays, we have a soup run in the streets of Palma, where we distribute 42 sandwiches, around 45 servings of soup, plus juices and “magdalenas”, which makes 2184 sandwiches and 2340 servings of soup per year. Plus, we also distribute jackets, blankets, sleeping bags, socks, hygiene products and others, depending on the needs.
This December we had three amazing “boosts” for this work. First, Mr. Ronald Brand, for his birthday, decided to give up on presents and asked his guests to, instead, make a donation for this street work. This resulted in a 1.200€ donation, which will help us tremendously during the next year and already allowed us to buy a much needed new and bigger soup pot.
The second was a campaign organized by one of the mothers from Queens College, Alexandra, supported by the Headmaster, and started by being a class project from her daughter; later became a school campaign. They collected several of the items we mentioned above to distribute on our soup run and we were so happy with that! Believe us, the people who received them were even happier!
Third, and not for the first time, the Lyons of Costa de Calviá kindly sponsored us in the purchase of 40 sleeping bags. They were distributed together with backpacks filled with hygiene products.
